Ambassador Harry Harris was nominated by President Trump on May 23 and confirmed by the United States Senate on June 28 as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (ROK).
Ambassador Harris commanded the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM), now known as the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), from May, 2015 to May, 2018. He is the first Asian-American to hold four-star rank in the U.S. Navy and the first to head USPACOM. Prior to USPACOM, he commanded the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Other operational commands include the U.S. 6th Fleet, Striking and Support Forces NATO, Joint Task Force Guantanamo, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 1, and Patrol Squadron 46.
From 2011 to 2013, Ambassador Harris served as the representative of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the Secretary of State. In this role, he traveled to over 80 countries with the Secretary and participated in most of the Secretary’s meetings with foreign leaders. He also served as the U.S. Roadmap Monitor for the Mid-East Peace Process.
Ambassador Harris’ personal decorations include the State Department’s Distinguished Honor Award, the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, three Navy Distinguished Service Medals, three Defense Superior Service Medals, three Legions of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and the Air Medal. He received the Republic of Korea’s Tong-il medal in 2014. He has also been decorated by the governments of Australia, France, Japan, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Singapore.
Ambassador Harris was born in Japan and reared in Tennessee and Florida. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978. He holds master’s degrees from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. He also did post-graduate work at Oxford University and completed the Seminar 21 fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ambassador Harris’ father served in the U.S. Navy, and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was stationed in Korea and Japan after World War II until he retired in 1958. Harris’ mother was Japanese. She moved to Tennessee with her husband and young son in 1958 and became an American citizen in 1974.
Ambassador Harris is married to Ms. Bruni Bradley, herself a career Naval officer.

James Kim is Chairman and CEO of AMCHAM Korea. Prior to AMCHAM, Mr. Kim served as Chairman, CEO and President of GM Korea. Mr. Kim is a Korean-American who is passionate about promoting the commercial interests between the United States and Korea.
At GM Korea, Mr. Kim was responsible for the total operations with 17,000 employees (sales, manufacturing, distribution and design) in Korea. Mr. Kim also had oversight responsibilities with GM’s joint venture operations in Uzbekistan.
Mr. Kim joined GM Korea from Microsoft Korea, where he had served as Country Manager and CEO. His previous roles include CEO of Yahoo! Korea and Asia Regional Vice President of Overture (a wholly owned subsidiary of Yahoo).
Prior to Yahoo, Mr. Kim worked predominantly in the United States, where he was the Managing Partner at Palisades Advisors, based in New York. Prior to Palisades, he held other positions including CEO at Corcoran.com, CEO of Vivien International and National Marketing Manager at AT&T.
Mr. Kim serves as Independent Director of iClick Interactive (NASDAQ: ICLK) and as Senior Advisor of Archegos Capital Management, a New York based, family investment office specializing in U.S. and Asia public equities. Mr. Kim is also Advisor to ICONLOOP, a leading blockchain enterprise technology company based in South Korea. Mr. Kim remains active on organizations that promote the success of the Korean and US economies.
Mr. Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. As an avid tennis player, Mr. Kim serves as an official “Wilson Brand Ambassador.” Mr. Kim lives in Seoul, Korea with his spouse and has two grown children.

Jeffrey D. Jones has been with Kim & Chang since 1980 and during these years he has had some involvement with most of the foreign investors active in Korea. Mr. Jones has always had an international focus in his legal career. He started practicing law in 1978 with Baker & McKenzie in their Chicago and Tokyo offices.
Mr. Jones is active in civic and charitable activities as well. He served five terms as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and three terms as President of the Seoul Club. Mr. Jones organized and presently serves as Chairman of a nonprofit foundation, Partners for the Future, providing scholarships, job training, aid and other assistance to the unemployed and their families in Korea.
Mr. Jones serves as advisor to several organizations and government agencies in Korea including the Seoul International Business Advisory Council and Foreign Investment Advisory Council of Seoul City, Foreigner’s Policy Advisory Board, the Red Cross Advisory Committee for the Future Strategy. Mr. Jones provides advice and assistance to several NGOs and he is currently an honorary board member of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission, board member of Korea Green Foundation, International Vaccine Institute and Fulbright Foundation. Mr. Jones was appointed by President Roh Moo Hyun to be a member of the Regulatory Reform Commission and he is the first foreign national to serve in a government position in Korea. For his service to the Korean economy, Mr. Jones was awarded the Bronze Tower of Industrial Merit by President Kim Dae Jung.

Eun-Mi Chae is Managing Director of FedEx Korea. She oversees all of the company’s operations in Korea, a fast-growing market for express shipping and logistics service, and executes the overall strategies.
Chae has more than 25 years of experience in working in express shipping and airlines. Prior to joining FedEx, she worked for Korean Air and Flying Tigers, where at the age of 28 she became the youngest division manager in Korea’s airline industry.
In 1991, Chae joined FedEx Korea, initially serving as the company’s Customer Service Manager and in 2000 she was promoted to her first senior management role overseeing the company’s ground operations. Her career took another leap in 2004 when she was appointed Managing Director of Human Resources for FedEx North Asia Pacific. And in 2006 Chae became the first Korean female to hold a Country Managing Director position among all multinational express companies in Korea.

Luke joined the Company in 2011 as Managing Director of Korea where he led major strategic and organizational changes that resulted in record growth in the business, which had been stagnant for several years. Following his time in Seoul, Luke moved to Shanghai in 2014 to manage the Greater China business and drove significant growth and expansion of Disney’s footprint by pivoting the strategy to focus on localization, digital, and consumer engagement. Kaher Kazem was appointed president and CEO of GM Korea Co. and chairman of the GM Korea Board of Directors, effective September 1, 2017.
Kazem began his career with GM in 1995 in Australia and held several key leadership positions in GM Holden Manufacturing Operations.

Mr. Khang earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Seoul National University and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. in the United States.

O.H. (Oh Hyung) Kwon is vice president and president of Qualcomm Korea YH. In this role, O.H. has an overall responsibility for Qualcomm Korea operations, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) Korea, and Qualcomm Korea RFFE.
Kwon joined Qualcomm in 2007 as a regional sales manager for Korea. In 2012, Kwon moved to QCT Korea and served as senior director of Mobile and IoT Sales, and most recently as vice president of Sales. During his tenure at Qualcomm, he was instrumental in leading a strong engagement with key OEMs, driving new business opportunities and establishing excellent sales track record with his team.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, Kwon was the handset vendor manager at Sprint Nextel, managing handset OEM relationships and device certification and commercial launch processes. Kwon’s 24 years of experience as an international OEM sales expert include positions as VP & GM for the U.S. and Latin America at Yiso/Growell and as overseas sales manager for LG Electronics for the U.S. and Japan.

Robert Laing is Vice-President in the Republic of Korea for Lockheed Martin International. In this role, Mr. Laing is Lockheed Martin’s executive representative and is responsible for the leadership, strategy and development of the corporations’ business in the Republic of Korea as of 1 October 2019. Mr. Laing began his career as a business development manager and senior systems engineer at CANAC/Microtel in Canada, before moving to Hong Kong where he established a consulting firm, Gryphon Cypher, and consulted with a large number of government and defense industry clients.
Mr. Laing graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science

ACE American Fire and Marine Insurance Company / Country President
Edward Ler is the Country President of ACE American Fire and Marine Company Korea, A Chubb Company from March 1st 2018.
Prior to the appointment of Edward Ler as the new Country President for Chubb’s general insurance operation in Korea, he was Senior Vice President and Regional Head of Personal Lines, Asia Pacific. He was responsible for the management and development of the automobile, residential, specialty personal lines and high net worth insurance businesses in the region. The business encompasses Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Mr. Ler’s career in the insurance industry spans a variety of managerial roles covering the Asia Pacific, the Middle East and European markets. He concurrently held the post of President Director for hubb’s general insurance operations in Indonesia for two years before relinquishing the role in May 2016.
Prior to joining Chubb, Mr. Ler worked in the RSA Group as the Regional Director for Underwriting, Claims and Reinsurance with responsibility across personal lines, commercial and corporate business segments in Asia. While at RSA, he was also the Regional Commercial Lines Director for Asia and the Middle East accountable for developing small commercial and middle market strategies and business propositions.
Mr. Ler began his career as a regional underwriter based in the Asia Pacific branch of the European insurer, Allianz. During his ten-year stint with Allianz, he was promoted to roles of increasing responsibility; in Munich, Germany to manage a global underwriting mandate for a business line and later in Dublin, Ireland where he was in-charge of the international reinsurance business portfolios.
Mr. Ler holds a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) degree from Glasgow Caledonian University as well as Associateship from the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is a past recipient of the Munich Re Alois Alzheimer Scholarship.

Antoni Martinez started his McDonald's career at the Yallambie McDonald's Restaurant in Victoria in 2000 as a crew member. While completing a Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University, Martinez continued to work for the construction company developing McDonald's restaurants in Victoria.
In 2008, he resumed his career in McDonald's as a project manager in charge of rolling out projects, new stores, and remodel works across the Southern region.
During his first seven years with McDonald's, Martinez built his career through several development positions, including Strategy Manager, Construction Manager, and Regional Construction and Real Estate Manager. In 2014, he was promoted to the role of Development Director of the Southern region responsible for the construction and real estate portfolio in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia.

Mr. Slater began his career with Hyatt in January 1987 at the Hyatt Regency Auckland. From there he embarked on a career progression in Food and Beverage working in such locations as Hyatt Regency Dubai, Hyatt Regency Perth, Hyatt Regency Saipan and Hyatt Regency Guam over the course of 30 years. He was also part of the opening team at Hyatt Regency Incheon, directing the new hotel’s F&B operations during its initial startup. Young Rok Song is currently the Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Korea.
In October 2018, Young Rok was appointed as the Chairman of MetLife Korea Board of Directors and the Chairman of MetLife Korea Foundation in September 2018. He has held this position since September 2018 and he joined MetLife Korea as AVP & Finance Controller in March 2007.
Young Rok has over 20 years of insurance industry experience, beginning his career in 1993 as a pricing actuary at Kolon-MetLife after graduating from Seoul National University with a degree in Mathematics. Kolon-MetLife was a joint venture of MetLife with a local conglomerate established in 1989. The company turned into a wholly owned MetLife affiliate in 1998.

His main areas in the consulting firms were on external audits, consulting, tax and transaction services.
Young Rok rejoined MetLife Korea in 2007, where he was responsible for managing statutory and US GAAP accounting and reporting, tax, internal controls and treasury. His role was expanded in 2012 to Finance Director & Controller, overseeing all of the actuarial and financial planning teams.

Greg Briscoe is the Senior Commercial Officer in Seoul, Korea where he directs the U.S. Embassy’s export and investment promotion initiatives. Greg is excited about the opportunities for U.S. firms and localities in Korea and sees commercial work playing a critical role in bridging gaps and leading to stabilization in the region.
Prior to Seoul, Greg spent three years in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel as the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy, now in Jerusalem. He focused his team on IT, smart cities, aerospace, life sciences and Israel’s innovation ecosystem. Additionally, Greg oversaw U.S. Government commercial engagement in the West Bank and Gaza via his team at the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem.
Before Tel Aviv, Greg spent six years in Tokyo, Japan where he led Embassy efforts in investment promotion and commercial advocacy and promotion initiatives in energy, environmental services, aerospace, defense, and transportation. Greg also focused on promoting greater access to Japan's large basic industry markets, working directly with Japanese Government officials to ensure a fair playing field for U.S. companies.
Prior to Tokyo, Greg spent two years in Memphis, Tennessee working directly with FedEx Corporation to assist U.S. small- and medium-sized exporters, serving as the Commercial Service’s primary contact on events and communications under the FedEx corporate partnership program. Pushpinder Dhillon joined the U.S. mission in Seoul on September 16. He transferred from Nairobi, where he was economic counselor in 2015-2018 at the largest U.S. mission in Africa. As political and economic counselor in Dhaka in 2011-2015, he helped the Ambassador managing a bilateral relationship through a difficult period of political violence and increasing radicalism. Pushpinder also served as political officer in New Delhi, supervising coverage of Kashmir and domestic political affairs. An economic cone officer, Pushpinder has previously served in Kabul, Berlin, and Bridgetown. He has worked in Washington as desk officer for Afghanistan and Pakistan affairs (2000-2002) and as multilateral trade officer in the Economic and Business Affairs bureau (1996-1998). He also had assignments as special assistant for the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs and the Assistant Secretary for Political Military Affairs.

While his name would suggest a French connection, Francis is a Belgian citizen whose career has spanned far and wide, and he is currently based in Asia.
Francis is a seasoned global executive who served in a number of General Management roles before becoming President of GE Healthcare Korea in 2017. In that role, he was responsible for helping provide medical technologies and solutions to the healthcare industry in Korea, from diagnostic imaging, monitoring and digital solutions through to life sciences.
He joined Cytiva when it was known as GE Healthcare Life Sciences in 2009 as General Manager for Commercial Operations in EMEA and was later appointed Global Product General Manager, Research and Applied Markets, responsible for the consumables and hardware portfolio. He then became Global Commercial General Manager for Cell Culture in 2016.
Francis started his career by joining GE in a sales leadership program in 2001 and had early-career assignments in Belgium and Germany, before taking on sales marketing positions of increasing responsibility at GE Industrial Solutions.
He graduated from the University of Ghent in Belgium with a Master’s degree in Material Science and Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science in Polymer Technology from UMIST in Manchester, UK. Francis lives in Seoul, Korea, with his wife and two sons.
